Fascinating, high quality home movie with magnetic stripe of the 105th General Hospital, which was deployed from July 1942 to July 1944 to Gatton, Australia and New Guinea during World War II. Includes nice shots of downtown Brisbane, flora and fauna, and an interesting segment where there is a large fire possibly caused by enemy action but seems more likely just a drill of some sort. No shots inside the hospital or of surgery etc. Filmed by then 1st Lieutenant Ralph C. MOORE, O-419552, MC, Harvard University Unit. Companion to XD9526

Internet notes: The 105th operated from Gatton College until July 1944, as the primary military hospital supporting General Macarthur’s South West Pacific campaign. Increasing numbers of the US casualties arrived during late 1942 and early 1943, with another large influx arriving in early 1944. The 105th had than moved to Biak Island in the Dutch East Indies. As well as treating nearly 19,000 patients, the 105th developed particular expertise in the treatment of injuries and illness in the tropics.
