The Sons of Abraham, “Series directed by Paul-Jacques Callebaut and Nicole Saey”, Faded color, Circa 1986
“This was a documentary TV series. The title in Serbian translates as: The Sons of Abraham. It was shown in the former Yugoslavia in the 1980s. It mainly dealt with the Middle East. One of the episodes depicted the life of Iraqi Christians from the north of Iraq where Christians live intermixed with the Kurds. The scenes were probably filmed in the 1970s. Another episode dealt with the Islamic pilgrimage. Several of the episodes dealt with Lebanon. It showed the lives of the Maronites in Lebanon, both the poor Maronites and the rich elite Maronites. The programme discussed the current political situation in Lebanon and showed scenes of a paramilitary unit lining up which should mean that the civil war in Lebanon had begun and that means that this documentary TV series was filmed in 1975 or later. This documentary TV series was probably produced by Anglia TV. It could be that it was taken by some other British broadcasters.”
“The religious diversity of the area is the subject of ”The Sons of Abraham” a series of 13 half-hour shows, produced in 1983 by a Brussels-based concern, which begins with a history of the fertile crescent as the birthplace of numerous religions and sects – from Judaism and Christianity to the Shiites, Sunnis and Samaritans.
