XD86915 ” TO KEVELAER ” 1910s CATHOLIC PILGRIMAGE FROM COLOGNE TO KEVELAER, WESTPHALIA, GERMANY

This 1910s era, silent film (with titles in Dutch) follows a group of pilgrims to a holy site in Kevelaer. Kevelær is a town in the district of Kleve, in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. It is the largest Catholic pilgrimage location within north-western Europe. Over one million Marian devotees, mostly from Germany and the Netherlands, visit the Basilica of Kevelaer every year to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary. The journey begins in Cologne with some street footage is shown. The pilgrims take a steamboat down the Rhine and some of the famous castles and sights along the way are shown. They arrive in Kevelaer to much celebration. The film ends with some more footage from the streets of Cologne.

Rhine Flotilla, 11:30 Excelsior Hotel Ernst, 11:36 mounted police, 11:45 overview of the waterfront in Cologne including the Hohenzollern Bridge and the cathedral.
