“Episode of Series “Biology program. Unit 4. Physiology”. The film opens with an analogy between the kidneys and the selective processes by which they eliminate waste from the body, and the machines which select various devices. Laboratory experiments show the properties of semi-permeable membranes which function in the kidneys and allow wastes to pass but restrict the passage of food materials. Content analysis charts demonstrate the difference between glomerular fluid and urine. Factors affecting the rate of urine formation, such as blood sugar content and external factors are also examined.”
“Animated diagrams, together with laboratory demonstration, describe the renal systems. The film describes and illustrates the following: structure of the kidneys, ureters and bladder; structure of a kidney unit; relation of blood pressure, sugar, water and temperature to urine secretion: functioning and nervous and muscular control of the bladder. A clear presentation, using well established methods and fundamental ideas; controversial theories are avoided. There is a tendency to give simple analogies unnecessary to groupps which know something of the subject, although at the same time technical language and demonstration methods may be difficult for an untrained audience to follow. Considered to have definite value as an adjunct to teaching in high schools, colleges and schools of nursing, as well as for interested lay groups”
