Championship Basketball features Nat Holman, the famed coach of the City College of New York, speaking about the great game. The film covers the fine points of basketball as played by “bigtime” college teams. Among the court strategies discussed by Holman are the pivot (plus variations), screens, retrieves / rebounds, defenses versus pass plays, the properly executed layup, overloading, the shifting zone defense, the sliding man-to-man with zone principle, and others. The film was released in 1941 by Official Films.

Holman was known as “Mr. Basketball” during his lifetime. He was an American professional basketball player, college coach, a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and is the only coach to lead his team to NCAA and National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championships in the same season.
