XD80815 “ DUTIES OF THE SHORE PATROL ” 1951 U.S. NAVY MILITARY POLICE TRAINING FILM

This 1951 US Navy training film goes over the importance and duties of the Shore Patrol. The Shore Patrol maintain good order and discipline among military personnel and apprehend all unauthorized absentees (and other offenders as necessary). They watch over sailors on shore leave and represents the commanding officers of the sailors. The film follows to Shore Patrol members through a day of patrols. Their activities include checking documentation of sailors to ensure they are allowed to be on leave, assisting civilians who have problems with sailors, keeping an eye out for deserters, and assisting civilian police if sailors are involved. The film appears to have been shot in the Washington, D.C. area and its suburbs.
