XD65294 “BOLD JOURNEY” TV SHOW EPISODE OCEAN VOYAGE BY BOAT MONTREAL TO TAHITI TO LOS ANGELES

“Bold Journey: Honey Moon on The Voyage” is a black and white travelogue film from the late 1950s. Bold Journey, a broadcast travelogue program from ABC television and created by Jack Douglas, centers the stories of adventurers and explorers who traveled to remote parts of the world. Sponsored by Ralston Purina Company of St. Louis, the films were usually set up by an interview between a program host and the guest, who then narrated their film with first hand footage. This particular account tells the story of Peter and Jill Hamilton, adventurers from Glasgow, Scotland, who attempt to circumnavigate the world on their 24-foot sloop Salmo. The pair sailed from Montreal to Pitcairn Islands to Tahiti and then back across the Pacific to California without modern amenities on their boat like electricity or an engine. The film features first hand footage from the couple’s adventure of the people, places, and things they encountered along the way – from the skyscrapers of New York City’s skyline to the hut-lined shores of Taipei. Peter Hamilton also wrote a text account of the journey called “The Restless Wind”. (Note: the “Salmo” still exists today and is based in San Diego.)
