XD51494 “FIRE EXIT DRILL AT OUR SCHOOL” 1953 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIRE SAFETY FILM

Produced by Coronet Films as part of their Coronet Instructional Films series in 1953, this black and white educational short titled “Fire Exit Drill At Our School” discusses the importance of fire safety preparedness at schools. The film tells the story of an elementary school who runs consistent fire safety drills after a local fireman comes to visit and gives a presentation at the school. Educational collaborator Francis R. Scherer, chairman of the Committee on Safety to Life National Fire Protection Association, worked with Coronet Films group to make this film. Coronet Films (also known as Coronet Instructional Media, Inc.) was a leading producer and distributor of many documentary shorts shown in public schools across America from the 1940s through the 1980s. The company was founded by David A. Smart in Glenview, Illinois and the collection is owned and distributed today by Phoenix Learning Group, Inc.
