XD51304 “FIELD INTERVIEWS: INTERVIEW OR INTERROGATE” 1974 POLICE & LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING FILM

This police training film, shot in Miami during the 1970s, is intended to train police officers in field interview and interrogation techniques. It was produced by Keyes Harden Productions and David Woroner of Woroner Films Inc., who produced many law enforcement procedure and training films in this era. The film showcases the techniques used by police officers at that time and offers viewers a glimpse of the “behind the scenes” police methodology and concepts in this era. The film provides police officers with key insights and guidelines to follow, featuring re-enactments and demonstrations that apply these theories and techniques.

(01:50) The white police officer approaches three young Black men.

(01:57) He aggressively tells them to leave the area.

(02:11) One of the men refuses, and the cop calls him “boy,” the man responds by giving him the finger.

(02:50) The officer approaches a disorderly man.

(03:29) Gunshots are heard, and a getaway car flees.

(03:37) The police officer responds to the armed robbery.

(04:07) He talks to the detective.

(04:39) The detectives interview a witness.

(05:56) The cop asks the two men whom he had previously aggressively told to leave the area for information about the crime that just occurred on the street.

(06:05) They refuse to provide him information.

(06:11) A crowd gathers, impeding the privacy of the interview.

(06:30) The police officer uses hostile gestures.

(06:46) He then asks the disorderly man.

(08:48) The detective talks to his boss at the station.

(09:58) He then gives other officers descriptions of the robbers.

(11:08) Two officers address a man.

(11:20) One then pulls him out of the car and pushes him against the vehicle.

(11:29) His sister comes, and she is also arrested.

(11:42) The crowd around him gets angry.

(12:30) The officer drinks at a bar. An older man and a young woman make out behind him. He asks questions to the man beside him.

(13:03) He talks to the brother of a suspect.

(14:23) The brother agrees to help the officer.

(14:36) The officer then goes to a repair shop.

(15:26) He interviews a young man who bought the Yellow Toyota used in the robbery.

(16:42) The officer avoids asking direct questions to conduct an interview and search the car without reading Miranda rights.

(17:26) One of the robbers is arrested and brought into the station.

(18:24) He interviews a reluctant witness.

(19:24) The witness then agrees to the interview. He confirms the robbers did not shoot the employee.

(20:21) The detective talks to another witness.

(21:33) The two men talk at a diner.

(22:14) He explains the two employees didn’t get along.

(22:36) A close-up of the officer.

(22:51) Close-ups of different body language.

(23:07) The officer frisks a person.

(24:48) The detectives arrest the employee.
