XD50974a “WILLIE WILLIE” 1943 SOUNDIE MUSIC VIDEO CALYPSO MUSIC w/ SAM MANNING & BELLE ROSETTE

This “soundie” — a 1943 music video produced by L.O.L. Productions, inc — features Sam Manning and Belle Rosette performing “Willie Willie”. Rosette was actually the stage name of dancer Beryl McBurnie, who from 1941-45 was one of the most active and celebrated black dancers in New York City, and one of the first female calypso singers in the USA. Samuel L. Manning was a Trinidadian performer and songwriter who was one of the earliest calypsonians to achieve international acclaim.
