XD50904 “ALCOHOL + AUTO = ARRAIGNMENT” 1970s ANTI-DUI DRUNK DRIVING EDUCATIONAL / DRIVER’S ED FILM

Produced by prolific filmmaker Sid Davis, who spent a lifetime creating social guidance films, “Alcohol + Auto – Arraignment” is a driver’s ed film that vividly shows the consequences of DUI. This film follows a few people who were arrested for drunk driving, including the thought process and events leading up to their arrest, and the underlying problems in their life that made them want to drink.

A man stands for his mug shot with a lopsided eye. A man is pat down outside of a house by a policeman. Another mugshot, the man is trying to walk in a straight line for a sobriety test. Mug shot of a woman. Three men push a car down the road that had crashed. Title appears “ALCOHOL + AUTO = ARRAIGNMENT.” A man in a suit and sunglasses addresses a room of adults in a classroom. A man sits at a desk writing. Scenes from a house party, people are drinking beer and liquor (2:00). A man and woman get on a Honda MT-250 motorcycle and drive down the road. A cop swerves in front of the motorcycle cutting it off, the motorcycle crashes into some bushes (3:40). A man sits in his living room working on paperwork. His wife comes in and argues with him. The man sits down in a dark bar. He has a conversation and drinks with another man. Two cops give him a sobriety test, he walks in a crooked line (5:33). A group of women chat in a living room. The woman continues to drink by herself after everyone leaves. She runs out the door and gets into her car. A child runs into the street and the woman crashes into another car (7:14). The cops are at the scene and take her statement. A teenager stands in front of his high school looking lonely in front of a group of people. He is standing in front of a pool fully clothed while people swim and joke around. A girl pushes another girl in (8:23). He stands by the record player at a house party. Him and the girl are on the motorcycle. A man writes at a table. He drinks outside with other people. He works at his desk. He drinks at a bar with two other people. He sits in the living room drinking liquor while his son and wife eat dinner in the kitchen (9:58). A woman and her husband wave bye to their two grown children who drive away in a convertible. She packs a suitcase on her floral bed spread. She comes out of “Rancho Liquor” with a bottle and gets into her car (10:47). She speaks to a doctor in a wood paneled office. Her husband confronts her about the liquor receipts. Montage of people doing healthy activities without alcohol. End credit reads “Produced with the Cooperation of The Westminster Police Department.”
