XD49424 1959 GIRL SCOUTS CAMP PROMO FILM ” CAMP TIME, ANY TIME! ” SUMMER CAMP

This color promotional film “Camp Time, Any Time!” was made by the Girl Scouts of America in 1959. It was shot by Leonard Stark, produced by Carol Hale, and directed by Sidney Meyers. The film shows typical activities at a Girl Scout Camp including canoeing, hiking, art and more. The film emphasizes the importance of city kids, who are raised in the hustle and bustle, getting a chance to explore nature. The actual camp site shown in the film is not identified but it appears to be somewhere in the East. The GSA described the film this way in their catalog: “Girl Scouting, through the work of camping committees, helps make it possible for girls to satisfy the urge to enjoy the world of nature. Troop, day, and established camping are defined. Activities shown are appropriate to the kind of camping, age and readiness of girls, site resources. Among others, we see a nature mobile, rock collecting, clearing a stream, weather station, clay firing at night, canoeing, waterfront, trail signs, primitive unit, songs around the campfire. Girls’ voices, songs, and sounds of nature add reality. Camping is seen in summer amid colorful fall foliage, in sunny and rainy weather.””

Girl Scouts of the United States of America, is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad. Founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912, it was organized after Low met Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, in 1911.
