XD47894 “ STRANGERS: RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT ” CLASSIC 1980s SOCIAL GUIDANCE CHILD SAFETY FILM

This 1980s social guidance film “Meeting Strangers, Red Light, Green Light” is intended to educate young children on the dangers strangers may pose to their safety. It cautions that while most strangers they see are “green light people,” meaning safe, others are “red light people,” that is to say they are dangerous and children should stay away. It walks through several signals that should alarm the child and help them realize the stranger is not safe to be around, for example if a stranger asks a child to accompany him to a deserted place, that is a “red light.” A version of this film was originally made in 1969; this update dates to the mid- 1980s and was produced by Sal Bruno for BFA Educational Media.

Motion picture films don’t last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we’ve worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies — including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you’d like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we’d love to hear from you.
