One of many films in the “Roll Call” series produced by Motorola Telepictures, “Accident Investigation” was directed by the team of Sanders, Rose and Swedloff and executive produced by Sid Davis (:09). Davis was a well-known American director and producer who created non-fiction films for social guidance purposes. This particular film depicts what must steps must be taken by a police officer responding to an automobile accident. It opens with an image of an African American woman sitting unconscious behind a wheel following an accident (:13). An on-duty officer takes the dispatch from his car radio (:31). He then arrives on scene as a pedestrian checks the unconscious woman’s pulse (:41). He parks his car about fifty feet back from the accident to act as a shield and keep further accidents from occurring (:57). Once on scene, the next priority is first aide for the victim (1:03). The Pasadena officer calls in for medical assistance (1:22). He then sets out a flare to mark off the area (1:45) and meets to take statements from the witnesses (1:55). The officer moves the witnesses to where they had been standing at when the accident took place for better retrieval of details (2:07). Here he collects their identification forms (2:14). Witness reports are recorded carefully (3:45). The primary interrogation is conducted with the drivers and passengers involved (4:00). The pair involved are separated (4:33). During the interview the officer watches for signs of substance abuse or shock (4:59). The investigating officer delegates to have the vehicle towed away (6:11). He then attempts to speak with the injured wife named Judy (6:42). The ambulance arrives and she is taken in for medical care (6:50). The accident scene is photographed (7:15) and measured (7:54). The officer uses his watch to discover whether or not the traffic signal is functioning properly (8:32). The towing company arrives and must provide an inventory list for the vehicle (8:53). Afterwards, a comprehensive accident report is formed (9:18). The film concludes with a special thank you to the Pasadena Police Department (10:04).
