XD47654 “DREAMLAND OF THE WORLD” 1970s UNITED STATES TRAVELOGUE FILM LAS VEGAS (IN GERMAN) PART 2

Created by filmmaker and photographer Alexander Baege (1927-1999), this film “Traumland Der Welt” — literally “Dreamland of the World” — is a rarely seen travelogue which takes viewers on a tour through America. Part 2 begins in Wyoming, in Yellowstone National Park (:10). The Old Faithful Geyser billows with steam (:29). A pair of Bison moves through the grounds (1:43). Two mud ponds exist in Yellowstone; one being the Fountain Paint Pots and the other being Artist Paint Pots in the Lower Geyser Basin and the Norris Geyser Basin, respectively (2:04). Elk are spotted (3:24) prior to footage of frozen ground near the bubbling mud ponds in winter (3:49). A pair of black bears waddles through the road (4:32) as passerby’s stop their vehicles for a closer look (4:49). Bryce Canyon in Utah is the next destination (5:37). The canyon is generally traveled to by way of the Scenic Byway 12; often referred to as one of the most scenic roads in the country. The massive expanse of the canyon is captured (7:10) with close shots of the ornate and intricate hoodoos (7:31). The Glen Canyon Dam (8:32) formed the man made revisor known as Lake Powell (9:27). Rainbow Bridge National Monument rises over the scene (11:35). The Grand Canyon (13:00) is captured in Arizona. This was once referred to as the Divine Abyss by John Burroughs. Navajo Indians are spotted as a female tribe member works at a large loom (15:00). A male tribe member rides atop a horse herding sheep (15:53). Ancient Pueblo Ruins (16:34) rest in Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. Switching back to Arizona, the Petrified Forest National Park in Northern Arizona is comprised of petrified trees made up almost entirely of quartz (17:01). Las Vegas, Nevada (17:32) and it’s busy neon glory are viewed next. Some of the notable casino’s spotted are the Lucky Casino (1734), the Golden Nugget (17:42), the Pioneer Club Casino (18:09) and the Stardust Casino (18:29). Vehicles move through a toll operating booth on their way to California (18:56). Sequoia National Park is the first to be visited in Tulare County (19:57). The base of one of the massive trees is highlighted (20:33). A woman is pictured near the giant to demonstrate its size (20:47). The California Tunnel Tree is spotted next (20:51) as cars drives through it. Vehicles on the highway head for San Francisco by way of the Oakland Bay Bridge (22:00). The notoriously steep roads of San Francisco are viewed (23:14). The Shanghai Low Restaurant, in Chinatown, is captured on one of San Francisco’s oldest streets; Grant Ave (23:23). The Pacific Ocean laps at the shoreline (24:33). One of the old mission churches in San Francisco (24:39) precludes the traditional cable car (24:50). The famed Powell Street turn table follows (26:00). Vehicles cross the toll (27:01) for the Golden Gate Bridge (27:10). The Fishermen’s Grotto Restaurant is viewed (27:51). Boats bob in the waters of the SF Marina Small Craft Harbor (28:40). Anglers hang over the side of large fishing vessels in Peirpoint Landing, Long Beach (28:56). Some of the men’s catches are captured as fish are pulled up from the waters with hooks still attached to mouths (29:32). A red snapper fish is dragged onto the boat surface (29:43). The film briefly shows Huntington Beach, California (30:36) and heads for Los Angeles (31:06). The smog riddled skyline of LA follows (31:15). Drive up movies and restaurants were still popular at this time (32:03). Tourists pull into a Holiday Inn parking lot (32:39). A car moves down Pasadena Highway on it’s way to Hollywood (32:55). The TCL Chinese Theatre, also known as the Grauman’s Chinese Theater follows (33:17). This is a movie palace situated on Hollywood’s historic Walk of Fame. Debbie Reynolds (33:21) presses her palms into wet cement on Hollywood Boulevard. Holiday scenes in the city follow (33:31) as parade participants carry US flags on horses through the streets (33:40). Native Americans (33:43) and Clydesdale Draft horses move through (34:22). Elegant floats ride through the area (36:44) including one for the City of Port LA. The film wraps up with a 747-passenger plane (37:25) in the sky and a final shot of Lady Liberty in New York (37:28). The film was made in cooperation with the US Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, and the US Department of Commerce (37:40).
