XD47644 “DREAMLAND OF THE WORLD” 1970s UNITED STATES TRAVELOGUE FILM NEW YORK (IN GERMAN) PART 1

Created by filmmaker and photographer Alexander Baege (1927-1999), this film “Traumland Der Welt” — literally “Dreamland of the World” — is a rarely seen travelogue which takes viewers on a tour through America beginning in New York and continuing on to Virginia, Florida, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada and California. This first part begins New York with the NYC coastline in view as the Liberty Statue rises above Ellis Island (:51). The Brooklyn Bridge (1:33) connects the boroughs of Manhattan to Brooklyn over the East River. The sidewalks of Manhattan are riddled with shops and pedestrians as thick traffic cuts through the streets (2:39). Time Square; in Mid-town Manhattan (3:36), sits at the intersection of Broadway, 42nd Street and 7th Avenue. The famed New York Checker Cab is seen moving around the city which is nearly obsolete today (4:24). Time Square is again viewed after nightfall with the Times Building in the center behind advertisements (5:31). The famed Hotel Astor is seen in the bottom left corner of the screen (5:31). The Empire State building (6:20) and the Chrysler Building are viewed among the city skyline (6:25). The World Trade Center towers are spotted side by side at (6:32) dating this film from sometime after their completion in 1973. The film then heads for upstate New York (7:53) and Niagara Falls (8:03). The Falls straddle the Canadian border. Pedestrians are seen at the top of the monstrous waterfall (8:36). A few visitors get splashed with mist from the falling waters (9:27). A rainbow cuts through the air (11:20). Many restaurants around the site boast picturesque dining views (12:00). From New York, the film moves to Williamsburg Virginia (12:28). The largest open-air museum in the US is viewed here known as Colonial Williamsburg (12:33). Horse and carriage cart workers in traditional colonial attire around the grounds (12:45). A pair of tourists lock themselves in a traditional pillory (12:52). From here, we head to Florida and Marineland (13:32). Marineland Dolphin Adventure sits just below St. Augustine. Dolphins do stunts for guests (15:07). A car heads down to the Florida Keys by way of the Overseas Highway (16:28). The Everglades follow (17:07). The Everglades National Park covers a 1.5 million-acre wetlands preserve. A boat named Paula II cuts through the waters (17:14). The sandy coastline of Miami Beach follows (18:37). Luxury hotels such as the Versailles are spotted (18:47). Nearly all the hotels come equipped with hotel pools for guests (19:05). A scuba diver takes a dip (19:29). From underwater, sharks swim in front of the diver (19:41). Two young children on a small boat watch a dolphin play in the water near them (19:52). Weeki Wachee Florida (21:12) rests in Hernando County. Women conduct acrobat stunts under water (22:04) as one dons a mermaid skirt (24:05). This is Weeki Wachee Spring State Park, one of Florida’s oldest tourist attractions opened in 1947. Cyprus Gardens in Polk County is turned to next which had also been one of Florida’s first attractions for tourism (24:41). Bright flower blossoms and a red bridge are captured (24:52) along with a cluster of pink flamingos (25:03). Female water-skiers appear (25:21) taking to the waters in white swim suits. Stunts are conducted with threesomes (25:45), pairs (25:53) and a pyramid of nine (26:27). A barefoot water skier follows (27:06). In South Dakota (28:32), a Volkswagen Bus moves down Highway 240 through the Badlands (28:49). These Badland mountains are the beginning of the Rocky Mountains (29:33). A member of the Lakota Sioux tribe, whom hold this land to be sacred, is captured on film with a brilliant feathered headdress (30:21). The camera moves up to view Mount Rushmore (30:47) with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Lincoln carved into it. The map takes viewers to Yellow Stone National Park in Wyoming (31:52). Pronghorn Antelope graze through the scene (31:56).
