To test design parameters for spacecraft and compatibility with spacesuits and material packages, NASA utilized a large neutral buoyancy water tank to simulate low or zero gravity. In this film, divers are shown maneuvering through a metal structure, and moving a mock-up metal package. It’s unclear what type of structure was being tested, but most likely it was intended to simulate either the docking area between the Apollo Command and Service Module and Lunar Excursion Module, or the type of docking system employed on Skylab or the Apollo-Soyuz mission. Presumably, tests of this type were initially conducted with SCUBA divers, and then eventually with subjects in spacesuits.
