This silent footage, apparently from a Hollywood production, shows a prisoner being taken for execution on the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison. Known as “Old Sparky”, the chair was first used for a mass execution on July 7, 1891. In its 75 years of operation, a total of 695 men and women were executed by the electric chair in New York state (614 at Sing Sing). Eddie Lee Mays, electrocuted at Sing Sing on August 15, 1963, was the last person to be executed in New York state.
