This TV commercial for Mego’s glamour doll Candi — with washable hair — dates to 1979. The 19″ Candi was designed to compete with the more popular Barbie, and came with two clothing collections. More importantly, her makeup could be changed and her hair color altered. The doll came with its own compact, “mask”, and hairpins. A later “sparkle” model came with glitter and a Coppertone model was marketed for the suntan lotion company.
