United Air Lines Route of the Mainliners Presents, “All airline personnel appearing in this film are actual United employees performing their regular duties”,
“The rebuilding and a transcontinental flight of a DC-6”
“The first film is titled ?United 6534? and features a few weeks in the life of ?Mainliner New York.? This classic film treats us with great takeoff and landing shots, air-to-air shots and a complete documentation of United?s then-new Douglas DC-6B. Beginning with a narrated tour of UA?s brand-new $6,000,000 San Francisco maintenance base showing the various shops and the complete overhaul of ship number 6534. Then after a test flight which includes two engines feathered and re-started in mid-air, we see the sparkling DC-6B put back into revenue service on a Flight 608 from Los Angeles to New York via Chicago. All the ?behind the scenes? action is shown as well, including the reservations, weather, and flight operations departments. In flight, we see the dramatic landscape below including air-to-air shots over San Francisco, The Grand Canyon, The Rockies and Manhattan, as well as in-flight service and cockpit shots. The flight pauses at a snowbound Chicago Midway airport showing winter operations and servicing there before continuing on to New York.”
