Last of the 27 episodes in “The Valiant Years” series, “Goodbye Mr. Churchill” first aired in 1961. The episode focuses primarily on events in 1945, leading up to the moment when he lost his seat as Prime Minister and was relegated into leading the opposition. The episode takes its title from a famous newspaper headline .

The Valiant Years was originally produced by ABC, and based on the memoirs of Winston Churchill, It was directed by Anthony Bushell and John Schlesinger, narrated by Gary Merrill and with extracts from the memoirs voiced by Richard Burton, and featured a score by Richard Rodgers.
