XD14330 ” MAN IN SPACE” 1960s SOVIET SPACE PROGRAM SOYUZ 4 & 5 VOSKHOD 2 &3 COSMONAUTS LEONOV

Made for home use and sold in Moscow’s department store, this short film is an extract from a Soviet newsreel series entitled “Man in space/Человек вышел в космос ” produced in 1961-1973. This one was produced in 1969/1970 by CenterNauchFilm. It showcases the first successful mission of in-orbit docking and the first temporary space station of the Soyuz program – Soyuz-4 and 5.

It includes the March 1965 spaceflight of Pavel Belyaev and Alexei Leonov during the Voskhod 2 mission, Voskhod 3 spaceship.

We can see Leonov in a sensory deprivation training tank, in a low pressure chamber ; training on a ballistic flight Tu-104 flying training platform airplane.
