Shot in 1958, this silent home movie shows what we believe to be the Christmas in Many Lands Parade in Disneyland. Amazingly, Walt Disney himself is visible in a car at :25. (We are not sure of the identify of the young girl — perhaps someone out there will recognize her.) As you can see, the parade featured performers in many different national costumes, including Chinese, eskimos, and more. It wasn’t a huge parade by today’s standards, but you have to remember that this was 1958 — just about two and a half years after the park opened! In fact, according to a Disney blog, the “Christmas in Many Lands Parade” was the first in Disneyland history and debuted in 1958. The name changed in 1961 to “Parade of Toys and Parade of all Nations,” but then switched back to “Christmas in Many Lands Parade” until 1964.
