This black & white educational film “The Science Report” was produced by Newspix for the U.S. Information Service as part of a series. It was primarily made for classroom use. This is circa 1964. The first segment of the film focuses on scientific advances in automobile and traffic safety including highway construction. Next, an experimental sewage treatment pond at the University of California, Berkeley that uses algae for processing. This form of microalgae wastewater treatment was believed offer promise as both a way to process sewage and to provide algae as food for livestock and humans. Finally, a look at Hall of Science exhibits at the New York World’s Fair. Produced by Howard Azine, edited by Oscar Canstein, narrated by Phil Tonken, and executive produced by Bert L. Coleman.

A woman in a DORON type driving simulator watches a film screen in a simulator to test her reaction ability. Men sit in a class and listen to a teacher. A car swerves on wet pavement. Traffic on a highway. Cars race down windy roads. A car accident takes place (2:40-4:44). Body of water near Berkeley, CA, at the University of CA. Raw sewage and waste goes into the water. Algae is explained. Sludge is made and gathered by workers. The experimental pond. Pumping equipment. Separation of the sludge (4:45-7:30). Dried granular food for animals. Algae has made this. Scientists feed the animals with this product. Goats and then horses are fed (7:31-8:42). New York. People walk around the World’s Fair. A hotel in NY where biochemists have a convention. The men talk and look at machines. Books and pamphlets. Computers. Experiments at work (8:43-10:43). People walk around the World’s Fair in NY. An Electronic Brain. A child walks through a child’s only exhibit. Children learn about radioactive materials (10:44-12:21). People enter the Chemical Man exhibit. Sequences in the exhibit use three dimensional models. A human skeleton is shown. Space vehicles for the future, including a space re-supply taxi that is about to dock with a second vehicle. They hang from the ceiling. A simulated space station is shown. A space show on Earth in the world of science (12:22-14:12). End credits (14:13-14:34).
