XD13494z LSD Trip Or Trap

This color educational drug scare film is about the bad effects of LSD. It was made in 1967 and directed by Sid Davis.

Opening titles: “LSD” TRIP OR TRAP!, produced in cooperation with the Inglewood, CA Police Dept. (:14-:35). A body lays on a road covered with a blanket at the scene of a car accident. A fire extinguisher is being used on one of the wrecked cars. Police mill about near a police car. Bob looks on and sees his best friend Chuck who is dead behind the wheel of one of the cars. Ambulance lights. Chuck’s girlfriend is badly injured, the other driver is dead. Bob looks on in disbelief. Bob and Chuck play basketball, they dance with their girlfriends and play records. Bob and Chuck talk and look at a volkswagen up on a jack. Frank and his group are introduced, they like LSD. LSD is Lysergic acid diethylamide, a hallucinogenic drug. Effects typically include altered thoughts, feelings, and awareness of one’s surroundings. Many users see or hear things that do not exist. People hand off money for drugs. Someone flies a remote controlled airplane high in the sky. Frank wanted to turn others ‘on’ to LSD. He didn’t want to fly with airplanes, he wanted the others to do LSD. They discuss at a picnic table in a park. Bob works on an airplane. Chuck expresses interest into LSD and wishes to try it. Chuck grabs his girlfriend by the hand and walks away (:36-4:27). Bob walks by and sees Chuck hanging out with those who do drugs. Bob is disturbed and confused. Bob walks down a sidewalk to the library. Bob gets some information from a library worker. Bob reviews LSD in books. Pills. Pill capsules. Liquid vials. A man removes sunglasses outside. Sign for Centinela Hospital. A man freaks out in a corner of the room while on an acid trip. A girl comes to the hospital after a trip where she has mutilated her hands. A person is pushed on a hospital gurney. A chemist picks up a test tube. A child in a garden outside of the maternity ward (4:28-7:08). Maternity ward interior. Pictures of deformed babies possibly affected by LSD that their mothers were on while carrying them to term. A clock. Magazine cover: The Post: The Hippie Cult. Picture images move quickly and in and out to give a drug like effect. A woman is given some medicine at the hospital. Police sign. LSD article in The Post magazine. Underground, amateur chemists make LSD. Close up on people on drugs. A girl is led to a jail cell followed by two males. One of the males is cuffed and being led by a policeman. Picture images move quickly and in and out to give a drug like effect. Light imagery that spells out DANGER (7:09-10:07). JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) releases its latest findings on LSD. Bizarre drug like imagery. Bob walks through a park. Chuck does his first dose of acid while his girlfriend looks on. Bob talks with two girls who are ‘acid heads’ and display listless indifference. Parents watch as a person is taken away in an ambulance. The mother cries. Chuck laughs and starts having his acid trip kick in, others act odd and listless. Bob crawls on the floor and uses a chair to get up, his eyes move oddly, he freaks out. The Acid Trip imagery is bizarre – picture images move quickly and in and out to give a drug like effect. Bob reviews LSD literature and newspaper articles on LSD accidents (10:08-13:53). Chuck wanders down a sidewalk, breaks into a car. Pills are handed from one hand to another – Chuck’s girlfriend Susan decides to take LSD. Bob leaves his house and gets into his Volkswagen. Susan starts to freak out as Chuck watches. Images are bizarre and freak her out – Bob is chased out by the acid heads. Images move quickly and in and out to give a drug like effect and a distorted effect – ice sculpture is very strange and bizarre and scares Susan (13:54-16:16). Chuck tries to comfort Susan. Chuck leaves with Susan. Bob writes a letter. Chuck drives down a street, the red lights bother him. Bob puts the letter together and readies to mail it, he goes outside, hears a siren, drives his Volkswagen towards the siren. Exits his car and sees the car accident that started the film. Susan is okay but Chuck and the other driver are dead. Bob is upset as his reads the letter in his headSusan is worked on by medics. Chuck is dead. Bob rips up the letter and discards the pieces, they land on the ground (16:17-19:12). End credits (19:13-19:18).
