XD13054 ” CHRIST IS BORN ” 1940s DEPICTION OF BIRTH OF JESUS ADMIRAL PICTURES RELIGIOUS FILM

Dating to the 1940s, this short film from Admiral Pictures “Christ is Born” , tells the New Testament story of the birth of Jesus. The film begins in Ancient Rome with Emperor Caesar Augustus making a decree concerning taxes. At 1:22, people are shown making pilgrimages to their cities to pay their taxes, including in Canaan and Egypt. At 2:00, Joseph of Galillee and his wife Mary are depicted on their way to Bethlehem. At 2:30 Joseph is told by an angel about his wife’s pregnancy and the destiny of her child. At 3:26 the couple is turned away at the gates of the city. At 5:24 Joseph finds a deserted stable which becomes the manger in which Christ will be born. At 6:00, Herod the King of Judea was being questioned by three wise men who are looking for the new “King of the Jews”. Herod’s scribes search for prophecy related to this event and forms a treacherous plan to use the event to his advantage. At 8:51 simple shepherds witness a vision from Heaven and the glory of the Lord brings them good tidings of great joy about the savior. At 10:00 Mary and the child are shown in the stable with the shepherds. At 10:48 the three wise men approach the manger. At 13:30, Herod is shown congratulating himself for learning of the location of the child. At 14:00, Joseph learns in a dream that he must flee to Egypt with the child and his mother before Herod seizes them. At 16:00, Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus flee ahead of Herod’s men, who are seizing every infant they can lay their hands on. The film ends with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus making good their narrow escape.
