This short, silent film from pre-war Germany shows the growing of rice in Fujiyama, Japan. It contains pastoral scenes including at :52 a traditional Japanese fishing vessels which resembles a Chinese junk. At 1:24 a traditional man-powered water wheel is used to irrigate the rice crop while at 1:40 a wind powered wheel is shown in action. At 1:50 rows of the field are plowed with an oxen. At 2:07 flood irrigation is shown. At 2:20 the sacred Mt. Fuji is seen. At 2:30 the mud is leveled by farm workers. At 2:40 a long dike is shown and at at 2:50, a hillside farm with terraces — terrace farming — is shown. At 3:28 rice crops are planted in the mud. At 3:59 more seedings are planted while at 4:10 the farmers pause to admire the setting sun.
