XD12134 1972 PROMO FILM FOR DEINHARD WINE KOBLENZ GERMANY WINEMAKING REISLING

This short film from 1972 profiles Deinhard, makers of fine wine including Reisling, since 1794. At :20 Koblenz (spelled Coblenz before 1926) is shown. Koblenz is a German city situated on both banks of the Rhine where it is joined by the Moselle. At :42 the Deinhard offices and museum are shown along with historical artifacts. At 1:28, a wine cellar is shown containing many barrels of wine. At 2:26 aging racks are seen with thousands of bottles of wine. At 3:00, vineyards are shown in Germany. These are very steep and some of the most northerly in the world (in this era). At 3:45 wine grapes are shown ripening in the vineyard. At 4:05 the Bernkasteler Doctor is shown. Although only 8.1 acres in size, it’s place in the wine world is legendarily grand. In the 13th century, the Archbishop of Trier was in this area of the Mosel Valley when he became deathly ill. After countless cures didn’t work, he was poured Riesling from a humble flask from this vineyard and was cured. From then on, it became known as “The Doctor”. Today, it is the most expensive agricultural land in all of Germany.

At 4:44 caretakers work in the Bernkasteler Doctor and grapes are harvested. At 5:18 other Deinhard vineyards are shown along the Moselle and Rhein. At 5:35, the highly advanced bottling plant for the company is shown producing sparkling wine. It is located in Blasheim (sp?) At 6:26 some of the company’s spirit labels are shown. At 6:44 scenes of London are shown, including a Bobby and Palace Guard as well as the House of Commons (7:19). The Green Label Mosel is shown at 7:28 being sampled by family members in London.
