This black & white film was used to promote AMERICAN AIRWAYS, which was formed in 1930 and in 1934 was renamed American Airlines. There is no copyright at the beginning or end of the film so the date of the production is 1934 (or 1933) due to statistics shown towards the end of the film.

Title card: Fly American! A Presentation of American Airways, Inc., The Story of Modern Airline Transportation, The Movement of Man- Mail- and Merchandise through the skies (:06-:33). Footage of an airline flying through the sky. A man who is interested in flying talks with a representative in an American Airways office although there are alternatives to purchasing tickets: through a hotel porter, Western Union, a Post Office, over the telephone, with an American Airways limousine driver, and travel agents. When you are ready for your flight, you will be picked up by an American Airways limousine and taken to the airport (:33-2:07). At the airport, it is bustling with planes, cabs, limos, and people. You might see a Hollywood Actress who travels as well as other interesting people. A grandson talks with his grandfather. It takes an organization to make an airline – it takes 10 men to keep 1 man in the air. People come and go in the airport. Government approved planes fly from Canada to Mexico (with the US in between), 65 major cities, dependable, day and night in all kinds of weather (2:07-3:52). Montreal and

Brownsville, TX (the gateway to Mexico) are possible destinations. Downtown Montreal and Cowboy holding a sheep are shown. Boston, its harbor, is featured. And you can go from Boston to Los Angeles in little more than a day as Los Angeles is shown. On your way back, stop in Phoenix and then go from Chicago to Atlanta and Florida. Memphis, TN is an option as is Ft Worth, TX. Downtown Ft Worth is featured. Dallas, TX and St. Louis, MO. Cleveland, OH is next and then Washington DC (3:52-5:39) People start to board. Air travel is easy. Planes on the tarmac. Skilled mechanics and crewmen work on them. The pilot looks at weather conditions and reviews his itinerary (5:39-7:09). Before passengers board, bags of mail are safely stored. 650 lbs of mail can be stored. Many things can be checked. Co-pilot and stewardess help people board. Interior of the cozy plane. Luxury travel that is the standard of the world. Newsman races to catch his flight and gets on.

All seats are first class and all passengers are first class. 18 people are ready to takeoff. The plane goes down the runway and into the air: a flight from Chicago to NYC (7:09-10:24) Cruising the skies, you can read what is provided or look at the amazing views out of the windows. Comfort, adjustable seats, a smooth flight, ample dome lights, individual ventilators and ashtrays. Stewardess is a registered nurse and a trained guide. Aerial shots of below. Cool water is on tap. Washroom is available. The pilot has continuous communication with the ground every few minutes. Distance no longer masters man, it is the other way now. You can sleep on these flights as noise is buffered. Twin motors carry the load. The landscape below is amazing. You meet interesting and important people on a flight(10:24-14:22). Cloud shots. Lunch on a personal tray. A man passes out cigars as a celebration due to having a baby. Animated rendering of a plane going from Chicago to Detroit to show distance and time saved. Pilot contacts Detroit as flight continues. Flight lands, people exit. Plane is refueled. Businessmen fly to save time, they cannot afford to travel unless its air. Plane is back in the air. Radio range helps the pilot. Flying over Niagara Falls, beautiful scenery (14:22-17:44). Buffalo airport. Crossroad of many lines. Other planes are featured getting ready to take off. Delaware water gap aerial shot. From 1928 to 1933, there was an influx of air travelers. From 2,651 to an estimated 120,000. Candle beacons assist the flights (17:44-19:00). NYC aerial shot, the plane is arriving in New York. If its cool, heat will be turned on, warm and cool air will be on. Lots of time has been saved. They have landed in Newark. You can have lunch in Chicago and dinner in NYC due to the time saved. People exit the plane and laugh as the man having a baby has had twins. Evening in NYC. A man gets ready for bed in a first class hotel. A plane circles the globe. Fly American! (19:00-20:50) Animated plane flies at camera.
