This silent German film (partial) shows the installation of a railroad switch by teams of “jungen” or Hitler Youth. At :52 a team quickly installs a switch stand with military precision. The frog is shown at 1:35 before a quick check is made of the switch’s alignment and operation. At 2:25 the switch is bolted in using track wrenches. At 3:26 the ties are completely aligned using sledgehammers. At 5:00 underlay plates are placed on the track. These are then screwed into the ties at 7:00.
