“Created by the U.S. Navy for publicity purposes in 1979, this historic films provides an overview of the ships of the fleet ranging from mighty nuclear powered aircraft carriers to lowly auxiliaries. Included are carriers USS Nimitz CVN-68, USS Eisenhower CVN-69, USS Enterprise CVN-65, USS Kitty Hawk CV-63, USS John F. Kennedy CV-67, USS Independence CV-62, and USS Midway CV-41. Cruisers shown include USS Long Beach CGN-9, USS Chicago CG-11, USS Richmond K. Turner CG-20, USS Wainwright CG-28, USS California CGN-36, USS Virginia CGN-38. Destroyers include USS Du Pont DD-941, USS Spruance DD-963, USS Hoel DG-13, frigates USS Oliver Hazard Perry FFG-7, USS Koelsch FF-1049, USS Badger FF-1071. Amphibious warfare ships USS Mount Whitney LCC-29, USS Tarawa LHA-1, USS Charleston LKA-113, USS Denver LPD-9, USS Iwo Jima LPH-2, USS Frederick LST-1184, and USS Hermitage LSD-34. Ocean minesweeper USS Illusive MSO-448 is also shown. Small combatant craft USS Pegasus PHM-1 and Surface Effect Ship SES-1008 are also shown. Some of the auxiliaries include USS Kiska AE-35, an ammunition ship, as well as USS San Jose a combat store ship AFS-7, USS Neosho an oiler AO-143, USS Puget Sound AO-38, USS Hunley AS-41, and Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV-1. Submarines shown include fleet ballistic submarine USS Sam Rayburn SSBN-635, USS Will Rogers SSBN-659, USS Ethan Allen SSBN-608, attack submarine USS Nautilus SSN-571, attack submarine USS Los Angeles SSN-688, USS Scamp SSN-588, and Trident submarine SSBN-726 — shown in rollout footage. The film ends with footage of the venerable sailing ship USS Constitution which remains on the naval registry and always will. “
