XD26615 “ TRAVEL TALKS / PARIS GLIMPSES ” 1930s PARIS, FRANCE & FRENCH COLONIAL EXPOSITION FILM

In this issue of “Travel Talks”, famed travel journalist E. M. Newman sends viewers on a day trip to Paris in July of 1932. Newman’s shorts were released by Warner Brothers and edited at the Vitaphone Studios in New York. Much of his travelogue work was released during the Depression era for viewers trapped at home eager for far away adventures. Here, Newman runs through whimsy open air cafes, greens of the Bois de Boulogne, the races at Longchamp racecourse all the while showcasing French fashion and culture of the early 1930’s. It features a number of pavilions and installations of the Paris Colonial Exposition of 1931. Expositions such as this were designed to showcase the country’s diverse culture and resources. Motion picture films don’t last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we’ve worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies — including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you’d like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we’d love to hear from you.
