Made in the former Soviet Union in the 1960s, “Berlin Storm” is a patriotic, educational film that shows the Red Army’s advance into Germany and the last battle of the war in Europe (Apr 16, 1945 – May 2, 1945). Street fighting by infantry backed by tanks and artillery is seen starting at :50. At 1:50, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building are seen in the heart of the German capitol. At 2:12, rockets are loaded onto a Katyusha rocket launcher. At 2:38, the Soviets occupy the roof of the shattered Reichstag. The official story is repeated — that two hand-picked soldiers, Meliton Kantaria (Georgian) and Mikhail Yegorov (Russian), raised the Soviet flag over the Reichstag (2:55). At 3:13 the German flag is shown in the shattered ruins. At 3:26, German soldiers emerge and surrender. At 3:35, German officers (possibly staff from the Fuhrer’s bunker ) are seen emerging. At 3:48, surrender flags are raised over Berlin. The war in Europe is over. At 4:36 the WWII memorial in East Berlin is shown.
