“At the shop an experienced journeyman cabinetmaker begins to teach the new apprentice the skills of the craft. The master, in turn, shows another journeyman the fine points of a design from Thomas Chippendale’s compendium of the dominant modes of furniture in London. The scene changes to the Governor’s Palace where that gentleman and his lady are starting for the cabinetmaker’s shop. The Governor inspects the completed desk he has ordered, approves it, and the beautifully hand-crafted article is loaded into a slow but sure ox cart for delivery”
