XD81815 1940 KODACHROME HOME MOVIES OF MARDI GRAS NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

Shot by G.L. and Mrs. G.L. Pease of Otter Lake, Minnesota, these extraordinary color home movies of Mardi Gras in New Orleans date to the year 1940 (at least — that date appears on screen on the Jax float seen at 2:28). Many of the images were shot on Canal Street, and the movie “Swanee River in Technicolor” (released 1939) is visible on the front of the movie theater seen at (2:24). The footage includes both daytime and nighttime images of revelers, floats, and street performers.

This is the 1940 Mardi Gras Parade.
