46584z PAN AM AIRLINES NEW CALEDONIA & FIJI ISLANDS TRAVELOGUE MOVIE PRINT 2

This 1960s color film about Fiji and New Caledonia is one of a series of Pan Am New Horizons travelogues. The film opens with a Cabin Cruiser boat headed toward New Caledonia. The passengers are in bathing suits (:23-:39). A man drives off the boat and comes up with two lobsters (:39-:58). The boat lands, and the passengers get off for a picnic on the beach. The lobsters are cooked on a grill and a large basket of food is opened and served (1:00-2:50). Noumea is the capital of New Caledonia (3:00). People in 1960s fashions walk by stores. Window shopping includes clothes and French perfumes (3:13-3:30). Fiji was a British outpost in the film; it became independent on October 10, 1970. The changing of the male guard, whose uniforms include skirts, at Government House is shown (3:47-4:10). A native club dance is shown (4:13-5:08). The traffic policeman wears a skirt (5:09). Duty-free shops include a window full of 1960s cameras, transistors, and video equipment, including Canon and Pentax (5:35). Rainbow Reef is popular for its coral reefs, seen through the a glass-bottom boat (5:41-5:59). Divers bring up various coral from which the guide shakes out small fish, a banded sea snake, and a turtle (6:00-7:35). A woman in a bikini walks onto Castaways Island and sits in the sand (7:45). A man blows a conch horn to signify the start of a picnic meal (8:18-8:40).
