1069 Same Mud, Same Blood 1967 NBC Report on Vietnam 101st Airborne Division Charles Austin Vo Huynh James Eury

One-hour report on the integration of white and African American troops of the 101st Airborne Division. Featuring U.S. Army platoon in Vietnam led by an African American sergeant.

Director Gerald Polikoff

According to the December 3, 1967 New York Times review, “(Mr. McGee) vividly detailed that under battle tensions racial antagonism is eradicated and that he enjoys an equality of acceptance in the army that he is not likely to find at home.”

“Actually, “Same Mud, Same Blood” is more likely to be remembered for the extended coverage of the company under fire in the jungle and rain. The closeups were spectacular and the fearlessness of Mr. McGee and his camera crew spoke for itself.”
