The film BRINGING THE WORLD TO YOUR CLASSROOM is a Demonstration Sound Film produced by Erpi Classroom Films Inc (:11). It depicts scenes from a few of the Erpi Instructional sound films which were designed to break barriers in human learning (:31). Educators hoped to increase the quality of education in utilization of these films as occurrences that would normally be impossible to see, such as the growth of a plant’s root, are visible using time lapse (1:33). Slow motion pictures enabled rapid action to be easily understood (1:48). It could be difficult for all students to see classroom or laboratory experiments from every position yet film made it possible and cleared confusion (2:05). The combination of sound and sight created experiences in which students received a better, lasting understanding of vocabulary (2:31).The sounds of nerve impulses that made muscles contract could even be amplified (3:10).Audible yet rarely recognized sounds such as shy bird calls are made distinct (3:22). Animated photography has the ability to create lasting impressions and understanding of normally difficult concepts (3:49). Dangerous topics such as bomb explosions were safely depicted in the classroom on film (4:35).The movement of the sun towards a star at a rate of twelve miles per second are shown as limitations in space and time were overcome (4:49).Studies showed that 37.4% of students with a lower IQ improved their learning comprehension and those with a higher improved by 31.6% from the sound films included in lesson plans (5:25). While it may be impossible for every child to visit a farm, the films portrayed farm animal life without having to leave the room (6:57).During intermediate schooling pupils were taught and shown geography from even the most remote locations (8:21). The film “Water Power” explains how the energy of the Niagara Falls is transformed into usable electric energy (10:06). The wasteful practices of extracting oil and loss from oil fires are depicted vividly for students (11:10). Astronomical films show occurances such as solar eclipses that astromers would otherwise have to travel thousands of miles to witness (13:29).The principal of an electric generator is understood through the film “Electrodynamics” (13:41). Light and wave phenomenas, such as polarization are understood principals using the picture “Light Waves and Their Uses” (14:11).“Heart and Circulation” utilized animation to show the opening and closing of heart valves (15:43).Pupils watch typhoid bacteria destroyed in “Body Defenses Against Disease” (16:18).“Digestion” and “Mechanics of Breathing” also aide to further the understanding of anatomy and biology (16:56). The nerve control of muscular action (18:33) is brought into the classroom as well as the sound of the human brain at rest (18:54). The film draws to conclusion with a series of films on the symphony orchestra; a representation and climax of just how much sound film has contributed to the educational system (19:01).
