This amateur, silent home movie shows a trip to Hawaii and Alaska in the 1970s, apparently made aboard the liner SS Arcadia. SS Arcadia was a passenger liner built for P&O in 1953 to service the UK to Australia route. Towards the end of her life she operated as a cruise ship, based in Sydney, until scrapped in 1979. This film doubtless dates to the 1970-1974 timeline when, after a refit, she became a full-time one-class cruise ship and worked the west coat of America, making a series of summer cruises to Alaska and winter cruises to Mexico.
The film begins in Hawaii and has views at 2:50 of downtown Honolulu with many tall apartment buildings under construction near Waikiki. At 6:33 the Arcadia is seen in port. At 6:51 the scene abruptly chages to what appears to be Juneau, Alaska. The Alaskan Hotel and Bar, also known as the Northlander Hotel, is seen next to the Red Dog Saloon. At 7:30 a gigantic glacier is seen. At 13:58 the gold prospector statue in Sitka, Alaska is shown. Numerous other landmarks we could not identify are also shown through the end of the film.
