This film explains the deployment procedures used by the U.S. Navy when using the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle DSRV-2, Avalon, in attempting to rescue the personell from a crippled submarine. See the DSRV-2 loaded onto a C-131 transport aircraft and then airlifted to the nearest port. Once there, it can mated to a tender ship or submarine — in this case the USS Hawksbill (SSN-666). There is amazing footage of submerged submarines as well as live footage of the DSRV-2 in action underwater mating with a ‘disabled’ submarine. Other ships seen in the film are USS Whippoorwill (AM-35) and USS Pigeon (ASR-21).
