23222 SHANGHAI CHINA & HONG KONG ISLAND SILENT HOME MOVIES from 1933

This homemade footage, dating between 1930 (the year the Sassoon Building was built) and 1933 (in the film, the building of the Bank of China in Shanghai isn’t yet built and there are no German flags in Shanghai — which were normally seen after 1933, as the Nazi Germany became more overt in its ROC military adviser and military materiel provider role) shows the Western Kowloon and Hong Kong Island part of the then-British colony of Hong Kong during a typhoon, which are a frequent spring and autumn occurrence in those parts, and the port of Shanghai with a defunct Malaya shipping company warehouse, the waterfront Bund District of colonial architecture in Puxi (East of the River), the Pudong district which remained rural and almost empty until the late 1980ies, the French Concession of Shanghai, ending with a Bund panorama filmed from a boat on the Huangpu River.
