Castle Films presents The World Parade: California Picture Book, a short film that provides viewers with highlights of the great State of California. The film opens with scenes of California’s breathtaking landscape, including Burney Falls (00:29), Mt. Shasta, the great Redwood Forests (00:57), and mountain slopes covered in wild flowers. One of the state’s greatest places for outdoor recreation is Lake Tahoe (01:27), the largest freshwater lake in California. People come here for water sports and to ski the incredible snow. Snow falls in massive quantities throughout the Sierra Nevadas, and the mountain passes must be cleared by powerful rotary plows (01:48). Cruising along the Sacramento River on steamboats (02:05) is a popular activity, but so is a visit to Yosemite National Park (02:19). One of California’s best areas to visit is the Monterey Peninsula (02:35), reminiscent of Italy’s Bay of Naples. In Monterey, people enjoy the scenic Midway Point, the areas fine resort hotels (03:17), and the old Carmel Mission (03:35). Not far from Monterey is Salinas, home to wild rodeos where people from all over the west come to compete. Santa Barbara (04:58) is a lovely beach town with beautiful beaches and the best preserved mission in California. Santa Barbara does as good a job as any place in California in preserving the state’s Spanish heritage—traditional Spanish dancing and music are omnipresent in the coastal town. Visitors wishing to experience Mexican culture go to the Avila Adobe (06:21) near the Mexican Quarter of Los Angeles. Los Angeles is also home to Hollywood (06:47) and Beverly Hills. The Motion Picture industry (07:18) allows visitors to Hollywood to also see places like old France with the surreal movie sets. The film also showcases other highlights of California, including the popular waterskiing destination Lake Arrowhead (07:40), fruit production (08:05), Red Rock Canyon (08:27), the White House Cliffs at Palm Springs (08:37), and Santa Catalina Island (08:58), proving that California is truly an amazing wonderland of contrasting beauty.
