The film showcases the many benefits that heat engines bring to everyday modern life. The film also covers important features such as the differences between heat and temperature, how heat is converted into motion, and thermal efficiency. These demonstrations are done through animations and footage of different types of heat engines from early steam engines, steam powered locomotives, and gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines. It ends with reflections on the future, including with promising inventions like the gas turbine engine — a type of continuous flow internal combustion engine.
