Created by Ted Eshbaugh and Burt Gillett and the Van Beuren Studios, “The Sunshine Makers” was released in 1935 as part of the Rainbow Parade series of cartoons. It was re-issued by Borden’s in 1940 as part of a campaign to promote milk and milk products in 1940. This version of the cartoon is in Cinecolor, but originally it was released in two color Technicolor.
The plot of the toon is simple: the Sunshine Gnomes (happiness) do battle with the Blue Devils of Melancholy ( sadness and misery). The Gnomes bottle sunshine (milk) and use it to transform the Blue Devils into Bluebirds of Happiness.
