This silent test film shows the results of a high speed crash test on a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette, and features various angles of the impact including shots from underneath the vehicle. The film begins with reference shots of the car from all sides before moving into the tests, with the car traveling into an angled concrete wall. The car doors were made of transparent plastic to aid researchers in seeing the impact effects on the passengers — crash test dummies.
The test shows twin air bags in use in the car, which dates the film to approximately 1973, although it may be earlier (and hopefully one of you Corvette enthusiasts can pin down the exact year). In the film you can see views inside the car as first generation airbags deploy, and although it is hard to gauge their effectiveness from this film alone, it appears they do prevent the dummies from impacting the windscreen.
