This short movie is presented by Castle Films (:11), founded by Eugene W. Castle in 1924. The company released newsreels, travelogues, condensed features and shorts as well as cartoons and “soundies”, the 1940s equivalent of a music video. This one specifically features college songs (:18) and features a famed back up singing group; the Gordonairs of Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians (:21). Fred was a renaissance man; an American Musician, band leader and radio and television personality. Credits and music copyrights (:28). The Notre Dame Victory song begins the show (:37). Students and teachers pass in front of the college (:53) as the song plays. Lyrics run across the bottom screen. The chorus of this song is considered to be one of the most recognizable collegiate fight songs. The golden dome of the main administrative building is zoomed in on (:53). The Basilica of Sacred Heart follows (1:00). The student dormitories known as Morrissey Hall are pictured (1:10). A college football game interrupts (1:41). The ‘Maine Stein’ song (2:08) was created for the University of Maine in 1902. The song was written by Lincoln Colcord; a former student of the school. The University of Maine’s campus appears (2:20). The Wingate bell rings (2:29). The Old Maine Clock Tower follows (2:37). Students move through the courtyard (2:58). A diver dives off the high dive (3:03). Campus dormitories are pictured (3:16). The chorus sings from the stoop (3:40). The Alma mater song; Hail to California (3:55) is used throughout the California system. Small black bears pass in front of white tipped mountains (4:07). The Golden Gate Bridge is pictured (4:11). Berkeley College and the Sabre Tower appear (4:12). The Life Sciences building is featured (4:29). Wheeler Hall auditorium follows (4:41). Players run across the field for a Berkeley College football game (5:16). The SMU; Southern Methodist University’s, fight song is known as ‘Peruna’ (5:55). Peruna is a type of alcohol. SMU also named a horse Peruna as their mascot. The Peruna monument is pictured (6:07). The student senate building follows (6:11). The columns of the building are zoomed in on (6:21). Two college students show off a small horse toy (6:38). The fight song of Georgia Institute of Technology is titled “Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech” (6:43). This is based upon a composition by Charles Ives from 1895. The entryway of the school is pictured (7:00). Students move through campus grounds on route to class (7:30). The film concludes with the Castle Films logo (7:37).
