8504z HOW TO TIE KNOTS U.S. NAVY WWII INSTRUCTIONAL MOVIE “USEFUL KNOTS” 

Made during WWII for the U.S. Navy by the Jam Handy Organization, “Useful Knots” shows how to tie all sorts of knots. The film illustrates basic rope and knot terminology including defining the bight (1:25), standing piece (1:36) and the fall piece (1:47). Various knots shown including the slip knot (2:23), square or reef knot (2:57), sheet bend (5:51), two half hitches (8:00), clove hitch (11:29), rolling hitch (12:41), bending to a cleat is demonstrated at (16:31). At (21:30) the bowline knot is shown.
