Austin Television Associates presents “Skip Taylor: United States Air Force,” a 1953 USAF flight training recruitment film, following three young aviation cadets through Pre-flight training. It was produced by Stuart Reynolds Productions, and combat footage courtesy of the USAF and the North American Aviation Unit. The film opens with a U.S. Air Force plane on the tarmac accompanied by “Wild Blue Yonder,” the USAF anthem. Major General Gabriel P. Disosway, Commander of the Flying Training Air Force, speaks to the camera. Various shots of Air Force planes flying in the air. 1:42 Troops marching in formation at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas as they chant “Wild Blue Yonder.” 2:33 Mr. Case and Mr. Morse inspect three new cadets standing at attention – Skip Taylor, Joseph Cullen, and Kenneth Grayson. 3:40 Taylor, Cullen and Grayson get dressed in the barracks. Skip and Ken struggle to help Joe finish getting ready. 5:11 Delta Squadron jogs to their next formation. Mr. Case addresses them. The squadron growls like tigers as a woman approaches in a car and smiles. 6:27 Cadets march in formation and chant the USAF anthem. 7:12 Wide interior shot of the dining facility. Delta Squadron cadets stand at attention. 7:40 Mr. Case directs them to sit and say grace. They pray silently. Joe struggles and takes a very large, unruly bite. 9:02 In the barracks, the three cadets relax and Joe complains about the discipline. They hurry out of the barracks. 10:27 Cadets sit in an assembly hall. They stand at attention as Major General Disosway approaches and addresses them. Closeup shots of the cadets. The jets land one after the other. 14:50 In the barracks, Ken holds a dog that managed to sneak on base. They panic and try to hide him, afraid they’ll get in trouble. Mr. Case approaches and the cadets stand at attention. 17:22 Mr. Case opens a foot locker and finds the hidden dog. As punishment, he charges them with two hours of drill on the correction ramp. 17:59 The cadets are seen marching on the correction ramp, in the middle of their drill. 18:51 Mr. Case looks on with the dog at his side. 19:00 Back in the barracks, the cadets talk to one another. The dog sneaks back into the room and they panic. 19:53 Exterior shots of Albrook Air Force Station in Panama. Cut back to the cadets in their barracks, talking. 20:43 A Fairchild C-123 Provider flies above a small island. 20:58 A plane flies over the Amazon rainforest. Two parachutes are released and the plane crashes. They are in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The pilots are Joe and Skip. They stumble through the jungle. Indigenous warriors in headdresses and war paint approach with spears. Back at the base, the team is on alert and flies out to rescue the lost soldiers, Ken among them. 21:53 The team approaches a building at 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (The Hurricane Hunters) base in Bermuda. Women that are part of the Royal Air Force (RAF) enjoy themselves by the pool. 22:21 View from inside a cockpit in turbulence. The front propeller stops. Skip, Ken, and Joe sit in a raft in the middle of the ocean. Various shots of aircraft. Air traffic controls speak into their intercom. The film closes with shots of the pilots in their F-86F Sabres.
