This Cold War era U.S. Army film, likely made in 1952, tells about the handling of military prisoners in the stockade. It begins with an escape scenario from a military prison, presumably caused by a guard’s lack of knowledge. From that, the focus shifts to training. Since the greatest danger comes when the prisoners are working, most of film addresses this circumstance.
First, the guard verifies the ID’s of his detail, 9:22. Then he uses trained responses and coordination of effort, particularly with the driver of the truck that is to transport the prisoners to their work site. If a prisoner attempts to escape, the guard follows a set protocol (13:40) and returns the prisoners to their barracks as soon as possible. The video tressed the importance of being Impersonal (17:17), The guard’s goals are repeated several times — Custody, Control and Discipline.
