Narrated by Katherine Hepburn and supposedly written by Eleanor Roosevelt, WOMEN IN DEFENSE is a World War II propaganda movie showing women war workers in a variety of settings, including laboratories (1:00), feeding guinea pigs special diets (2:30) and record their weights; attending nutrition lectures; designing working clothes for women; sewing uniforms, airplane wing fabric and parachutes (5:15); assembling and inspecting precision instruments (6:00) including ball bearings; operate drill presses and lathes in a machine shop (4:00); and wrapping surgical dressings for the Red Cross (9:30).
